CANADA COUNCIL:
Intermedia Gets Grant

OTTAWA ( CP ) - Grants totalling $137,000 in aid of the arts were announced by the Canada Council Friday.

Intermedia of Vancouver, where projects involving visual effects, dance, experimental music and film are carried out, was awarded a $40,000 grant,

The grants are part of an aid program expected to funnel some $9 million into artistic endeavors during the year.

Artistic workshops won three of the largest awards announced Friday.

Fronderie Collective Experimentale, a Montreal workshop where sculptors experiment with new materials, and L'Atellier Libre de Recherches Graphiques, an experimental Montreal print-making workshop won grants of $10,000 and $9,000 respectively.

Other awards in the visual arts field included Edmoton Art Gallery, $62,000 and Art Gallery of Memorial University, St John's Nfld., $2,000.
