Charley Adams was my great-grandfather. He was from Sliammon First Nation. The cause of death listed on his death certificate was 'senile dementia'. I have no idea how he was institutionalized and died so far away from us. His wife, Sarah Adams, and his many children continued to live in Sliammon, and his present-day descendants now number in the hundreds. I am committed to learning more about him.

    Lisa,

I can't tell you how moved I am by finding and reading your story tonight. Just this morning, I found my great-grandfather, Charley Adams, of Sliammon First Nation, died 1932, amongst the Woodlands graves. This past week, I had found his death certificate at the BC Archives in Victoria, which listed his death in Essondale of "senile dementia". Reading your family's story raises many questions! I would love to meet you! I'm at drevanadams@hotmail.com.

    Hello Lorna
I am researching information about those buried in the Woodlands cemetery and would like to talk to any living relatives. Please email me if you would be willing to share some information. My research is through Simon Fraser University.

Olive Melhus was born in Norway March 17, 1905 to John & Josephine Melhus. Josephine & 2 daughters Julia & Olive immigrated September 1905 to Cobalt Ontario to join father John Melhus. Nine children were born to the family. They moved to Granthams Landing after 1918. Olive was committed to hospital by her father due to strange behaviour, on Sept. 1923, age 19, discharged 1924. Admitted again 1927 to 1928, manic depressive. Admitted July 1932 & remains until her death July 1936.
She was visited quite often by her Aunt & siblings as well as father. There seems to be a mental
illness that has been prevalent in her family.

Her Aunt Julia Wiker was in the same hospital during these times but was not buried on the
    grounds.

I am the great niece of Jeanie O'Neill.
Her name is actually Jane McWhirter McCracken
She was born in Scotland in 1884, the daughter of Thomas McCracken and Isabella Kirkpatrick Whannell.
Her husband was Thomas O'Neill also born in Scotland in 1882. He died in Kelowna, BC in 1967.
    They had 5 children.

Thank you very much for providing the information on her burial that I was looking for.

Alfred's gravestone was dug up in our yard. I wonder how many others might be here. RIP Alfred and all the others who died so tragically. I hope you have all found peace. d
