Annie Oakes was born Annie Mcmahon on July 29, 1880 in Monahan, Ireland, the daughter of Peter Mcmahon and Bridget Ward. Her family came to British Columbia, Canada around 1912. In 1940 Annie married John Wesley Oakes, formerly of Ontario, Canada. He was the son of John Wesley Oakes Sr. and Catharine Spies. Annie and John resided on Homer Street in Vancouver, British Columbia. On January 7, 1943, Annie was admitted to the "Provincial Mental Hospital" in Essondale, B.C. She died there, in her 74th year on May 9th, 1954 and two days later was buried in Woodlands Cemetery. Her burial arrangements were handled by Garden Hill Chapel of Port Coquitlam, B.C.
