This is such a fantastic resource. It is a very generous to family history resources.

According to his death certificate, my gg uncle, Hugh George Bell, died at Essondale Hospital on 17th March 1928 and was buried in the hospital cemetery. Other notations on the certificate say he was buried on 21st March 1928, the funeral directors were Colombia Funeral Service and there is also a notation for New West. I presume this is New Westminster. Hugh does not appear in this cemetery. Would anyone have an idea where else I could look?

    Thank you very much

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this site! My great grandfather was among those buried and disposed of here and it is amazing to be able to see where he actually lies. You have taken my exact thought and made it a reality.
    Namaste-
    Christina

I just wanted to express my appreciation for the work that went into this site. I have been able to trace my grandfather and now know I can visit his gravesite. It is one more step in the ancestry quest I am working on. Thanks so much!

    Dear Michael de Courcy

Thank you so very much on this project, if it weren't for you and the many people involved I would never have know what happened to my Great Grandfather John Albert Dickerson died 1947 was buried there. I used the search and found exactly where his. I only found out he was even in Canada 4 yrs ago, no one in the family ever mentioned him. Got into genealogy and thank goodness for people like you. He was always so close, but yet so far. Could have been lost forever if it weren't for all you work.

    Thank you indeed, Debbie.

I am a family genealogist & in my searches among new family members, I discovered 2 of these interesting photos. Unfortunately they were not identified with the exception of the photographer being Edwin C Blair. I can give a few more details on the above information if interested. I do not have the originals in my possession - only photo copies as the originals had been lent to me by a new found 'cousin' several years ago.

I was glad to find this story, I have been trying to piece together my family history. Emily May was my Great Great Grandmother. Most of my family has passed except for my mother and uncle so the only source I have had to work with has been BC archives. I just wanted to say thank you.

Annie Oakes was born Annie Mcmahon on July 29, 1880 in Monahan, Ireland, the daughter of Peter Mcmahon and Bridget Ward. Her family came to British Columbia, Canada around 1912. In 1940 Annie married John Wesley Oakes, formerly of Ontario, Canada. He was the son of John Wesley Oakes Sr. and Catharine Spies. Annie and John resided on Homer Street in Vancouver, British Columbia. On January 7, 1943, Annie was admitted to the "Provincial Mental Hospital" in Essondale, B.C. She died there, in her 74th year on May 9th, 1954 and two days later was buried in Woodlands Cemetery. Her burial arrangements were handled by Garden Hill Chapel of Port Coquitlam, B.C.

May she rest in peace now that she is not forgotten.

Is it possible to find out any further information on Annie Oakes? Is there an actual grave marker? Thank you so much for any assistance.

Raymond Allen was my Great Grandmother's Uncle. He was born at Sunday Pt., in the town of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia in 1856. He left for the gold fields in the Big Bend country of British Columbia around 1876 and worked a placer mine. His death certificate states he died at the Home for the Aged in Coquitlam, BC, and was buried in Institutional Cemetery. I was curious why all his personal information on the death certificate was from his 'Commitment Papers' at Essondale and a little research led me to this site.
